About us

Introduction

Established in 1978 based on quality, customer satisfaction, and family ties, Ronnie Smith Transmission, LLC is why thousands of customers have trusted us to repair their vehicle's transmissions over the past four decades.

As an Abilene-born and bred businessman Ronnie Smith graduated from Abilene High School in 1965. He worked for Ben E. Keith unloading 100 lbs. of potato sacks. Before graduating school, he meets his life partner in the 9th grade, Janette Anglin Smith, daughter of well-known radiator mechanic Tom Anglin. After graduating, Ronnie and Janette packed up and moved to Garland, Texas, to work for his uncle. During the process they gave birth to their oldest son, Ronnie Len Smith. There he started and made a good living working on transmissions and learning everything he could from his uncle Billy Smith. Producing only 80 dollars a week, Ronnie supported his family by having a 50-dollar house payment and paying on his 1957 Chevy car. They lived and worked in Garland, Texas, for the next three years until his uncle moved the business to Big Spring, Texas, in 1968. After his uncle moved, Ronnie came back to Abilene to work for AAMCO Transmission. Janette Smith gave birth to their second son, Kenny Smith. Ronnie worked the next ten years of his life, learning all aspects of transmission work. Janette Smith started working in 1978 for Banyan International and later joined Ronnie in the business.

Today, Ronnie Smith Transmission, LLC has become one of West Texas’s most popular family-owned transmission shops—our 12,000 sq. ft. facility houses over 12 lifts: 4 drive-on and 8 side lifts. Our employees have a combined experience of over 150 years, spanning from general mechanic to diesel performance. Each employee is trained that customer satisfaction is the #1 goal in our business.
